Weekend @ Machhan

This weekend was not an average ordinary weekend. Me, my mom, and dad went out to the machan, a nice property overlooking a rainforest.

We left at 9:30 and while driving I read an interesting book on theoretical physics. We drove on the road for about an hour and a half before reaching a food court that has a lot of branches of famous fast-food brands. There we visited Starbucks, which had a wonderful feel to it. I ordered a chocolate milk, with a cheesy spinach-corn wrap, every bite felt warm and creamy at the same time. The bruschettas my mother ordered were amazing, it was toasty-creamy with a dice of tomatoes.

We then left, where the wiper broke. The car also got infested with ants. We had to wait so we drove a few minutes to a thali place, one whole plate filled with paneer, daal, curd, chips, and mouth-watering sweeting for just 280 rupees. I just ate the sweets and the chips because I was full of Starbucks. We grabbed our wiper and went on our way and got stuck in bushy dam. Mom was screaming at dad because he wanted to leave late and even joked about it saying,” What will we do at the reception.” The traffic lasted for a long time, and it was torturous waiting in the car.

Finally, we reached, and we tried to bargain for late checkout, but got only 1 hour extra, so checkout at 12 the next day. We went to our beautiful forest machans, situated at the top of the hill. We had 2 floors. The bottom floor had a king-sized bed, a mini living room (no TV) a balcony overlooking a rainforest with lush green trees and lime green hills. There was a big bathroom with an outdoor shower and bathtub. It even had European style paintings. The top room had a small bathroom with a shower and a queen-sized bed and a window overlooking valleys and hills. I called dibs on the top one.

Me and my parents then ordered some mouth-watering fries with a sandwich and hot chocolate. The milk was thin, but the sandwich and the fries were good. We saw a movie about my grandfather’s first cousin (yeah, she was a famous cook named Tarla Dalal). After the movie we ate dinner (complementary because of late check-in) and had some cheesy-tasting pasta with little cheese. Then we went and played table tennis, where I learnt my Nani was a TT state player. I was astonished. My dad surprisingly played well and played some fast rallies with me. Then we went and played games back in our lovely machan.

In the morning, we ate a camp-style breakfast. Then we took a nature trail where I found out that diamonds are common, but only some are good to be put on jewelry. Wow! Me and my pops had a couple of good rallies when we left for home. We went on a scenic route with less traffic, and my oh my, it was a real beauty. The lush hills, the large meadows and streams were the most scenic thing I have seen, compared to even Scotland. I read Taylor turbochaser, an inspiring book by one of my favorite authors. We ate lunch at a food court, I had crispy sabudana wadas, and a samosa paw, which was kind of good. I drank 2 chocolate milks and returned home checking Karma property’s (a hotel membership we have) and continuing my book.

It was a fantastic weekend after all.

  2. Hi Vivaan,

I just read your blog post about your weekend trip and I wanted to say that I was so impressed! You did a great job of describing all the different things you did and saw. It was so much fun spending the weekend with you.

I was especially proud of you for reading a book about theoretical physics. It was so much playing table tennis and spending time with you. It's important to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things, even if you're not sure if you'll like them. You never know what you might discover!

I also loved hearing about all the delicious food you ate. It sounds like you had a real feast! I'm glad you enjoyed the cheesy spinach-corn wrap at Starbucks and the cheesy-tasting pasta at the machan. And I'm even more glad that you tried the Sabu dana Wadas and samosa paw at the food court. Those are both traditional Indian dishes that I love.

Overall, I thought your blog post was really well-written and informative. You did a great job of capturing the excitement and adventure of your weekend trip. I'm so proud of the young man you're becoming. Keep up the good work!

    Love,
    Dad
